SPECIAL PERFORMANCE FRIDAY 3/22 6:00PM by Sam Christian

This work, centered around female victims of state violence and gun violence, examines the American dream both afforded by and systematically kept from Women of Color.
We consider the divine feminine, the afterlife, collective consciousness, and the space we create to honor the slain.
The seven portraits include Nina Pop, Angel Decarlo, Pearl Young, Breonna Taylor, Ma’Khia Bryant, Sandra Bland, Layleen Polanco.
Each woman was drawn by Merenda Cecelia on plaster with underglaze, transfered onto stoneware slip, designs were added by Sam Christian with underglaze and the pieces were fired to cone 6. A third lustre firing included the gold embellishments.
Kourtenay Plummer’s vessels are surrounding the portraits.
After NCECA The Cocoon and the Perennial Consciousness show will travel to SP Gallery in Amelia for the month of April. The artists would like to keep this collection together and are seeking another space in which to display these works in order to keep the conversation going and continue to raise awareness.
